This test looks for the genetic material of the bacterium that causes gonorrhea. The infection is common and often has no symptoms, so testing is the only way to know. It is usually treated with antibiotics.
If you want to check for both gonorrhea and chlamydia, the combined urine test is a better value.
Before your visit: no fasting. Do not urinate for about an hour before you give your sample. A test taken very soon after exposure may not detect an infection yet. There is no blood draw, so no blood draw fee.
