The RPR test is a long-standing screening test for syphilis. It measures a substance your body makes in response to the infection. If the result is reactive, the lab automatically runs a follow-up test to confirm it and measure the level.
People order it after a new partner or possible exposure, or as part of routine screening. Many labs use either this test or the syphilis antibody screen as a first step.
Before your visit: no fasting is needed. Testing very soon after an exposure may miss an infection, so ask a clinician about timing.
