Lipoprotein(a), or Lp(a), is a cholesterol-carrying particle similar to LDL, but its level in your blood is determined almost entirely by genetics rather than diet or lifestyle. High levels are linked to a higher risk of heart disease, independent of your regular cholesterol numbers.
Because it’s largely inherited, most guidelines suggest checking it once in a lifetime, particularly with a family history of early heart disease.
Before your visit: no necesita ayunar.
