A standard cholesterol test tells you how much cholesterol is in your blood. This panel goes further, looking at the number and type of particles carrying it, and at inflammation markers tied to active plaque buildup — which can reveal risk that a normal cholesterol number misses entirely.
Along with a full lipid panel and Lipoprotein(a), this adds three markers not found in either of our other heart panels: Apolipoprotein B (ApoB), which counts the actual number of potentially harmful particles carrying cholesterol through your blood; lipoprotein fractionation, which measures particle size; and Lp-PLA2 activity, an enzyme that can flag active inflammation inside artery walls.
Who this is built for
- A family history of heart disease, or multiple risk factors (age, weight, blood pressure, smoking)
- Borderline or normal LDL cholesterol with other risk factors that don’t add up
- Already on a cholesterol-lowering medication and wanting a fuller picture of remaining risk
- Prediabetes, diabetes, or metabolic syndrome, which independently raise cardiovascular risk
Roughly half of people hospitalized for coronary artery disease have normal cholesterol — this panel is built to catch what a standard test can miss.
