The comprehensive metabolic panel measures 14 things in your blood, including glucose (blood sugar), calcium, sodium, potassium, kidney markers (BUN and creatinine) and liver markers (ALT, AST, alkaline phosphatase, bilirubin, albumin and total protein).
It is one of the most commonly ordered blood tests. People use it as a broad yearly check and to see how the body is handling changes in diet, weight or medication.
